Metaphorcast 11/9-15, 2020

Into the umbra of the umbra we go, as the Season progresses in Scorpio.  Passions run hot as fiery stars as Pluto squares both Venus and Mars.  Pluto, Scorpio’s planet, on the outer bounds of our solar system, lives in the shadows as books won’t even list him.  His other location is so deep down inside, that integrity crumbles if he’s too long denied.  He is the pre-life of life and it’s regeneration, the wakeful hum of a lively vibration.

Venus and Mars traveling as true opposites now, in their native signs of Libra and Aries.  In their polarity, they evoke a fight for peace.  Venus paints a concept of rest, and fairness, in the sweeps of the horizon for all to see and behold.  Mars reddens the blood with instinct to take risks and go forth in the name of what was beheld in that horizon.  Passions are unleashed.  Unhinged.

Galileo Galilei called Passion “the genesis of genius”.  Voltaire said it was “the winds which fill the sails of the vessel”.  Van Gogh said that he “would rather die of passion than of boredom.”

Van Gogh’s passion burned bright, as a painter and seer, but it also propelled him to cut of his ear!  For balance in times of a passionate season, its good to make room for the role of reason!

Benjamin Franklin said “If passion drives you, let reason hold the reins.”  Spirited Jupiter and rule-abiding Saturn join Pluto in Capricorn’s pragmatic gift of reason.  This is the sign that knows how to steer, making sure that our passions don’t lopsidedly veer.  With reason on our side, passion maintains its stride.  As Emerson said “passion though a bad regulator, is a powerful spring.”

The trickster of mind, Mercury, moves into the Seasonal vortex of Scorpio on Tuesday after a heady trek in Libra.  Seeing now is more infrared-based, like the night vision of cats.  We steer with poise and mysterious confidence.

Uranus in real and texturized Taurus, the Aquarian Age will not be trivialized.

Neptune in Pisces trines our Seasonal Sun, the heart of the dreamer in everyone, the pre-life of life and its regeneration.

The Moon

The Moon begins the week in Virgo, waning crescent with maturity.  Her spirit of improvement channeling the fires of passion into an avenue of strategy.  A moonlit path for her bare feet to touch.

By Wednesday she wanes slighter in Libra, tipping the scales of passion towards the scales itself, that world of otherness.  More you less me, but in you I see, me in ways I could not before see!  As Rimbaud said “I is another.”

By Friday midday, she wanes on into Scorpio, where she will vanish as New in the earliest hours of Sunday morning.  As the tides rise she deepens into her treasured abyss.  The umbra of the umbra, the prelife of life and its regeneration.  The stardust that makes the life of a nation.  Who’s passions collide like the stars in the sky, the same stars that a captain must fix his eye.

The very next day Mars at last moves direct- full speed ahead and all hands on deck!

The Moon will wax crescent in Sagittarius by midday Sunday.  The thinnest smile in the sky hinting at the power of optimism.  A sturdy optimism, pragmatically wed, between passion and reason, the heart and the head.

As always, happy astro pondering!

Weekly Astrology Metaphorcast 9/21-27, 2020

Sealed with a kiss, it is time to say goodbye to the summer.  Tuesday marks the first day of fall. The Sun goes into Libra the lover, with all the mystery of the other.  The equinox brings the phenomenon of equal day and night- will you try to stand an egg?  9:30 am is the official time for here in the  Eastern part of the US, if you care to give it a go.  Only during the equinox is the Earth’s axis not tilting toward or away from the Sun.  It is very bizarre to think of this only coming down to two moments of each passing year.  Egg or not it’s worth a pause of receptivity.  What will you notice during this rare World event?  Every other moment we stand upon a tilted Earth.  In her style of leaning, she blesses us with the Seasons!  In her spirit of duality she is leaning.  Instead of perfection there is a striving.

Fall has begun!  That “Second Spring” in the words of Albert Camus, “where every leaf is a flower.”  People are drawn from all over to get a literal peep.  Better get out those sweaters, and favor those flavors, of cinnamon, clove, apple and spice!  After all the primordial apple is wrapped up in the Fall- be it the fall of gravity on Newton’s dozing head, or the fall of innocence in a paradise garden.  Snow white took a fall when she bit her apple, into a deep slumber, only to be awakened by true loves kiss.  The crisp snap of an apple is the bold outline of Romantic Reality.  To acknowledge a Fall, and rise from it.  Falling down on the ground?  Well you must rise up again.  Falling asleep?  Well you must rise in the morning.  Falling in love?  Well, you must rise to cultivate that love and help it grow.  To Fall is to anticipate a rise.  Choose a course of action.  Make distinctions about what will and won’t work. This is the esoteric root of Libra’s freedom in decision-making.  Decision which means to “cut off” one route from another.  Perhaps that’s why King Arthur’s sword Excalibur was forged in Avalon, the island of apples.

Mercury the planet of perception in it’s final week of Libra- the apple of the eye used to mean the pupil; the zero-index blackness of in-drawing images.  A place where the world is translated upside-down. Cutting-edge and romantic.  Apples have always had a knack for being cutting edge, whether of the eye or the iphone.  As Cezanne declared, “give me an apple, and I will astonish Paris!”

Venus, the love Goddess, who makes pretty pentagrams in the sky, like the ones found in apples.  Wouldn’t it be she who took the first forbidden bite.  Now in Leo, the sign of the Sun, she imitates as a Morning Star. Rising like a true Romantic, who first had to acknowledge a fall.

Mars, the red hot planet in red hot aries and retrograde.  Fire.  The terror and the power.  Days of hazy skies.  The fire behind our appled eyes.  The principal of action, behind every moment of perception.

Jupiter, the planet of heights, stationed direc in Capricorn, the sign of the world.  Serious-Saturn and Metamorphosis-Pluto also in Capricorn, its easy to feel as though the world really is upside-down.  Good thing the Fall favors Romance, which lives on heights, and chooses hope in spite of despair.  As Abraham Lincoln said, “Teach hope to all, despair to none.”

Uranus, the most leaning of all planets, in bountiful Taurus.  Leaning with awareness, and learning from the seasons of your own life.

Neptune in Pisces, the low-dose poison in the center of the apple rendering its beauty all the more sublime.

The Moon

The Moon will be in Scorpio for half of Monday the last day of Summer, sprinkling some last bit of secrets into the wide open air.  Look for mist and nature winking back at you.

By 3:30 and through most of Wednesday she will be waxing crescent in Sagittarius- the high flying horse.  Fond of apples, the Horsey Moon welcomes in the Autumn Equinox on Tuesday and the air contains the potential for major lift off.  Lift off of spirits that is, if the right perspective is gleaned.  Fall, with all of it’s associations with melancholy challenge our powers of optimism.  As Emerson said “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.”

By 7pm Wednesday and a new Season in full swing, the Moon waxes into it’s first quarter in Capricorn through Friday.  Learn to love those bold outlines of your life.  Those boundaries that allow you to create more freedom.  The crisp snap of apple otherness– that keeps you from sinking into too much subjective seawater!

The weekend hosts a waxing gibbous Aquarius Moon, always potent for breakthrough as it is the sign of the times.  Strong winds are likely- crescendoing the song of the trees.  Changing in color, escalating in song, what can trees tell us that we’ve known all along, about our true nature, as artist and seer, evolving this way to be ever more freer.

As always, happy astro pondering!

Metaphorcast for the week of Monday August 17th through Sunday August 23rd

The poet Robert Graves famously said “theres no money in poetry, but then there’s no poetry in money either.”

Leo Season will be coming to a close this week- but as the Lion looks back over his shoulder, and a New Moon approaches, the eternal Cat comments; there used to be at least a little more poetry in money-

For money used to by tied to gold- before Nixon abandoned the gold standard in ’71- and gold possesses a poetic and lustrous authenticity that has captivated hearts for centuries. The soft reflections of gold seem to light up from within itself- mimicking the Sun- hinting at the divine- gleaming like eyes do when love is being shown.

Graves himself was a Leo- owning the heart of a Lion, a heart that is clear on its need for authenticity.  Gold is authentic, unless its not, in which case its fools gold that a fool must have bought. But to be real it must be authentic.  To be truly valuable it must be true to itself.  It must be known to itself, as echoes the words inscribed above Apollos Temple of Delphi.

The dimming of Leo Season is the brightening of a New kind of Light- that of Virgo- the sign of humility, who’s Season begins on Saturday!  With Humility, true authenticity can rise- like a good leader, like an open heart.

Humility invites transparency- with nothing to hide- the light of the gold is shining forth from within- like Truth itself- wholehearted and sincere- effortless in its radiance.

Gustav Klimt, who’s gold-infused painting The Kiss will continue to steal countless hearts into the future, said “Truth is like fire; to tell the truth means to glow and burn.”

Throughout history people have trusted gold to be worthy..

To trust in your own heart is an investment like no other, as you humbly listen to the authenticity of your dreams, the soft-glow of your heart’s truth.

Virgo Season knows that behind the Lion’s loud roar is an inner voice of the heart- gold with authenticity- just needing to be listened to.

As Leo Tolstoy said “Truth, like gold, is to be obtained not by its growth, but by washing away from it all that is not gold.”

The truth of gold finds real meaning in experience- and thus has the capacity to transform the past into something of real worth.  In this way, the future can change the past.

Sometimes the luster of meaning can’t be readily seen in an experience.  It may take looking at it from another angle to catch that dashing gleam of light.

As Emerson said “A man should learn to detect and watch that gleam of light which flashes across his mind from within, more than the lustre of the firmament of bards and sages.”

Mercury will be conjunct the Sun early in the week, with the Moon closing in as well.  In Leo, The planet of mind in the fire of the heart. William James said “Seek out that particular mental attribute which makes you feel most deeply and vitally alive, along with which comes the inner voice which says ‘This is the real me’ and when you have found that attitude, follow it.”

With a trine to Mars in Aries, the mind is enthusiastically supported by the root in tooting Will- the true warrior of the Sun- the devotion to motion- no matter how small- your own shining dawn- that presides over all.

By wednesday- the trickster trades in it’s Mane for a farmers hat- and with humility, finds constructive work for the golden appetite of that inner voice.

Venus Swims on into the matrix of Cancer, the matrix of the matrix itself, the mother of the mother, origin of origin, gentle because there is no other way to get in touch with such sacred truth- The Silver of Cancer longs to trust the Gold of Leo- the subconscious of mind longs to be lead but the bright consciousness of day.

Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto all near each other in Capricorn and retrograde- a revisiting on our faith in standards- are they tied to the gold>?  Is there authenticity behind the rules we live by?  Are the most authentic of voices being heard?

Uranus in Taurus- a revolution of value- led by the quiet and resonant inner voice-

Neptune in Pisces- New visions of currency

The Moon

The Moon will be waning the smallest crescent on Monday, in Leo and by Tuesday it will turn transparent into novelty.  The New Leo Moon is the ability of gold to become transparent- as it is the most malleable of all metals.  The alchemists vision to turn lead into Gold- is the same vision to turn 11Time into something malleable- The lustrous lamp of Leo Light does just this- as it allows meaning to be unearthed- and seen- at the right angle- and thus transform time itself into a new history- one that supports the vision of the future- where the past is actually worth something- and the state of becoming is held lovingly in the maternal arms of the past.

By Wednesday, the same day that Mercury goes into Virgo- the Moon will as well- as the Season readies itself for the Maidens new Light.  The traditional color of Leo yellow turns yellow Green for Virgo- as, with humble eyes, the focus now shifts to the earth and its bounty- the keeper of the Sun- the breezy leaves that digest the Gold- for our starry senses to behold.  As Quaker leader William Penn said, “Sense shines with a double luster when it is set in humility.”

Friday welcomes a Libra Moon, which will continue to wax crescent through Saturday- the first day of Virgo Season.  Libra Moons bathe the subconscious in a thirst for aesthetics- Use the simple light of Virgo consciousness to quench this thirst with natural ease.  Get outside- of the house- of your head!  As Walt Whitman wrote, “A morning glory at my window satisfies me more than the metaphysics of books.”

By Sunday, a Scorpio Moon grows with intensity and sets Virgo Season off with a potent earth-magic atmosphere!  Look for the hidden signatures of eternity- the digestion and recreation of the Sun’s precious light- the fibonacci of relational power- as life allows itself to be influenced and inspired to create itself again, a little different, but with ultimate reverence to the Sun- a lustrous tune which must be sung!

As always happy astro pondering!
