Nature's Zodiac

Beyond the Wheel

Happy Birthday Albert Einstein!

When we say the word genius, Einstein is easily one of the first people that enters most of our minds.  In this post we are going to examine the possible signatures of “genius” in Einstein’s chart as well as look deeper into what that word really means. In astrology, one of the first planets that jumps in to be associated with “genius” is Uranus.  Uranus is the lightning bolt that infuses us with electricity, intensifies what it touches and is considered the higher octave of Mercury (mind).

What lightning bolt?

Basically, the planets that serve as higher octaves take PERSONAL drives (inner planets) and make them TRANSPERSONAL drives (outer planets).  Venus the planet of love finds it’s higher octave in Neptune, the planet of DIVINE love.  Mars the planet of the will finds it’s higher octave in Pluto, the planet of DIVINE will.  Mercury the planet of mind finds it’s higher octave in Uranus, our DIVINE mind.  The universal mind.  The vast reservoir of knowledge that we are all connected to as human beings.

Another planet that needs to be mentioned when we talk about a genius is Jupiter.  Jupiter is associated with learning, as is the 9th house.  Jupiter (and Sagittarius, which it rules) is built to take leaps of faith and connect different concepts together to find MEANING.  Einstein has a strong Jupiter because it is in the 9th house and it rules his Sagittarius Moon.  So Einstein’s driving need in life (Moon) is to connect certain dots and find meaning.  His Jupiter takes on a strong Uranian tone (genius) as it is in Aquarius (which is ruled by Uranus) AND opposed by Uranus.  Uranus is intensifying his planet of faith and broad leaps of understanding.

“The intellect has little to do on the road to discovery. There comes a leap in consciousness, call it Intuition or call it what you will, the solution comes to you and you don’t know how or why.” Spoken like a true Uranian-Jupiterian!

Einstein’s Mercury (mind) is in forward moving Aries and conjunct Saturn, the planet of seriousness and hard work.  His mind is built to take on a lot.  It’s ready for hard work.

His mind is up for the task with Saturn conjunct Mercury in fiery Aries.

His Sun (life energy) is in Pisces, the sign that is tuned like no other into SUBTLETIES.  Pisces energy feels and intuits.  It seeks to flow with the internal rhythm of nature and surrender to it.  To run effectively it seeks divine beauty.

Pisces seeks to absorb vast beauty and grow from it.

Remember, Pisces is ruled by Neptune, DIVINE beauty, the higher octave of Venus, beauty.  Einstein is famous for playing the violin when he found himself stumped by his studies.  The immersion into the right brain of creativity (Venus and Neptune) by playing his music would lead to a breakthrough (Uranus) of understanding (Jupiter).  It’s interesting to note that the only aspect his understanding-seeking Sagittarius Moon makes is a trine (support) from his violin-playing Venus.

Finally I would like to tie in a wonderful insight provided by Elizabeth Gilbert, author of “Eat Pray Love” in her TED talk, “Your Elusive Creative Genius”. http://www.ted.com/talks/elizabeth_gilbert_on_genius?language=en

In it she talks about the fact that in ancient Greece and ancient Rome people believed that creativity came from a divine source and was not something wired into the individual themselves.  The relationships that you cultivated with this source led to your ability to express creativity.  People used to say I “have” a genius, and it wasn’t until the Renaissance came, where all of the attention was placed on the individual being the center of everything that people started saying I “am” a genius.  She speaks about the advantages of keeping that psychological distance between you and your “genius” when it comes to our own creative endeavors.  She explains that the myth of the genie in the lamp is representative of this truth.  Setting your genie (genius) free, as in not identifying with it leads to it working better.  I recommend watching the full TED talk, very interesting IMO..

Free your genius from the captivity of yourself! Let it resume it’s rightful place OUTSIDE, where you can establish a relationship with it.

Einstein sure seemed to have this sacred distance established within himself.   Here are some more quotes:

“When the solution is simple, God is answering.”

“The most beautiful thing we can experience is the mysterious.  It is the source of all true art and science.”

“I have no special talent.  I am only passionately curious”

“My religion consists of a humble admiration of the illimitable superior spirit who reveals himself in the slight details we are able to perceive with our frail and feeble mind.”

Happy Birthday to you Einstein, and your radiant genius!
